Beethoven: Leonore Overture No. 3
Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 17 in G, K. 453
Prokofiev: "Classical" Symphony
Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 3 in C, Op. 26
By now, Lang Lang has become the pianist of his generation, and NJPAC audiences have been cheering him on since the very beginning of his career. He returns this season, and in splendid company-with Christoph Eschenbach conducting the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra-to tackle a pair of very different piano concertos. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17 is a jewel of Classical elegance, while Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 might well be its bad-boy descendant-steel-fingered where the Mozart is sparkling, trippy where the Mozart is gently moonstruck-yet both are models of clarity and the cleverest genius. Eschenbach and the orchestra complete the evening with Prokofiev's droll "Classical" Symphony and Beethoven's titanic Leonore Overture No. 3.
Please note that there are no discounts for this performance.
Prior to the performance, ticket-holders are invited to join us for a free Made by Hand arts and crafts exhibit and sale featuring work by Daneen Augello (hand-blown glass jewelry and accessories), Sunny Seglin (beaded jewelry), Barbara Bass (wearable art), and Susan Pillay (hand-painted children's clothing).
